In September, LOM space will host a concert from the Mikrozvuk series, featuring performances by plus44Kaligula and Adriano Cava.
plus44Kaligula is a project by composer, producer, and performer Calla Statham, who hails from the post-industrial town of Oldham in the UK. She grew up surrounded by British glam rock icons and jazz and classical music, which her grandmother introduced her to. plus44Kaligula's work is a surreal landscape where ego and identity melt into scenes from Rene Magritte's paintings or Yorgos Lanthimos' films, creating a modern myth for times of crisis. The CTM Festival describes her music as a "kaleidoscope of profoundly alienated beauty." Cally's work also deals with class, education, and access to networks of opportunity, using music as a metaphor for sociolinguistics and a tool for emancipation.
Thanks in part to the influence of David Bowie, Laurie Anderson, and Scott Walker, her performances exude a deep theatrical sensibility rooted in virtuoso, sometimes operatic vocal work. Her ethereal, theatrical experimental pop is further enhanced by the intertwining of the performer's body with a cyborg-like tangle of microphones.
Adriano Cava is a sound artist, composer, and researcher based in Turin. In September, he will embark on a tour with his project Mikrokosmos, in which he experiments with electricity, low frequencies, and a hand-built speaker system. He fills the resulting ephemeral environments with sounds from everyday life and fragments of melodies he has heard. Adriano is a member of the Misto Mame collective, which organizes DIY concerts, festivals, and musical happenings. He is also the co-founder of the Riforma label, which focuses on experimental electronic music and collaborates with radio stations such as Radio Blackout, Radio Sygma, and 00185fm.
